Lowland rice farmers in ghana are aware of climate change and perceive it as changes in rainfall pattern, low rainfall amount, increasing drought, high temperatures, increase in pest and diseases and declining productivity. Because most of them are not engaged in off-farm activities and lack credit and inssurance shemes during adverse climatic conditions, they are highly vulnerable. Rice farmers use a combination of adaptations (selecting different rice varieties, use fertilizers and herbicides, alter planting dates and employ some water control measures) depending on their resource base. Lack of relevant information on climatic conditions, access to credits and difficult land tenure systems are some of the barriers to adapt to climate change
